Community

Always here and helping

We’re always here and helping our community.
Be it sponsoring a local event, volunteering for local causes, providing scholarships for local youth or donating through our community fund, our success is measured not by profit but by the impact we have on our community.

Community investment, initiatives & partnerships

You're a part of something bigger here. We use our profits for your good - not our pockets. That's a key difference between a bank and a credit union. We believe in working together to build a stronger community and we put our money where our mouth is. We invest time, energy and money in initiatives that have real impact our community. To say we believe in community investment is an understatement; it’s an essential part of who we are and that's something we're proud of.

WCU Community Fund

One of the ways we help build a better, brighter, & stronger community is through our Community Fund. The fund was established by our Board of Directors to fund projects and initiatives that have a long-lasting, far-reaching positive impact within our local communities. Typically, we allocate 1% of the Credit Union’s profits to the WCU Community Fund each year. That means we allocated just under $60,000 in 2022!

Donations & Sponsorships

We support a range of local events, fundraisers, festivals, celebrations and ceremonies that encourage community connections, nurture pride and celebrate diversity.

Sponsorships for these initiatives typically range from $250 to $2,000. Connect with us through our branch or marketing team to learn more and explore partnership opportunities. You can reach us at 306-842-6641 or by email

Scholarships

Pursuing a post-secondary education takes a hard work, dedication and a considerable financial commitment. We are proud to be able to support local youth and their efforts through our Scrap the App Scholarship program. Each student has an equal opportunity to win one of five $1,000 scholarships because we pick our winners randomly.  That's why there's no application, transcripts or references required.  If you're pursuing an education, we believe you should have equal opportunity to a helping hand up.

Employee Engagement

We encourage and reward volunteerism throughout our organization. In fact, it's an important component of our in our culture code and variable incentive plan.

We also offer staff-directed donations! Our employees love that each year they can choose a cause close to their heart and the credit union will donate $50 on their behalf.

Denim for Donations

Each and every Friday, you'll see our staff in jeans and purple shirt.  That means they've made a donation to a local community group for that perk!

So we ask you, do these jeans make our credit union look good?

Financial Literacy – Each One, Teach One

An important component of building financial resilience is the ability to understand and use financial information to make appropriate choices. That’s why our staff volunteer to deliver workshops on money management topics such as basic banking, understanding credit, fraud prevention and more.

Community Impact

Credit unions have a unique purpose, cooperative banking that connects values with finances, inspiring financial well-being for our members and our community. What a wonderful community we have! We have some amazing local community organizations doing amazing things in our community. We are honoured to be able to partner with such organizations in helping to make our community better, brighter and stronger.
